How to Install a Car Cover in 5 Minutes

By Mohammad Jawad Vakani, Founder of GN Car Cover · Updated 2026-08-28 · About the author

Fitting a car cover takes about five minutes — and doing it right is what keeps your paint safe and the cover lasting. Follow these steps and your GN Car Cover original-fit cover will sit snug, mirror pockets aligned, zip secured, ready for Karachi's sun, rain and dust.

Step 1: Park the car

Park on a flat, clean area and let the engine and exhaust cool down completely — a hot surface can damage the fabric.

Step 2: Unfold the cover

Lay the cover on the ground or over the bonnet with the GN Car Cover logo/branding facing up and the mirror pockets identified.

Step 3: Align the front

Drape the cover over the front bumper and bonnet first, matching the mirror pockets to the side mirrors.

Step 4: Fit the mirrors

Slide each side-mirror pocket over its mirror housing so the cover sits snugly against the glass.

Step 5: Pull over the roof

Walk around the car pulling the cover evenly over the roof, rear window and boot — do not drag the fabric across the paint.

Step 6: Secure the door zip

Close the door zip (if fitted) so the cover is snug and harder for wind or thieves to remove.

Step 7: Tuck the edges

Tuck the elasticated hem under the bumpers and around the wheels so no fabric flaps in the wind.

Step 8: Check the fit

Walk around the car and smooth any wrinkles — a tight, wrinkle-free fit is what protects the paint.

Step 9: Removal

Unzip, lift the cover off from front to back, fold it loosely and store it in its bag. Never fold a wet or dirty cover — shake it off first and let it dry.

Step 10: Cleaning

Wash with mild soap and cold water, rinse, and dry in the shade. Do not machine-wash or iron.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does installing a car cover take?

About five minutes for an original-fit cover, less once you have done it a few times.

Can I put a cover on a wet or hot car?

Wait for the car to cool and dry. Fitting on a hot surface can damage the fabric; fitting on a wet car traps moisture.

How do I clean my car cover?

Wash with mild soap and cold water, rinse, and dry in the shade. Never machine-wash or iron.

What if the cover is too loose?

A correctly fitted original-size cover should be snug. If it flaps, check the mirror pockets and door zip are properly engaged.
